AIM 4.0.2 and AIM (Free Edition) 4.0.2 are both now available in the iPhone App Store. As soon after we shipped AIM 4.0.1, we reviewed customer reviews on the iTunes and went to work on performance issues reported by some of our users.

Hi. I'm Edwin Aoki, and I'm a Technology Fellow at AOL. Contrary to popular belief (and wishful thinking) this doesn't mean I get to sit around and be fed grapes while thinking Deep Thoughts. In fact, I can't remember the last time I had any Deep Thoughts, let alone the last time anyone fed me grapes. But I'm thrilled to be part of the iPhone development effort at AOL, and I hope to provide some perspective on what it is we do here, why we do it, and to hear your thoughts on how we can do it better. You can follow my updates @edwinaoki.
Hi, I'm Christina Wick, Technical Director for the AOL Mac team. My team is responsible for the development and testing of all the desktop Mac applications as well as a bunch of iPhone apps including AIM, AOL Radio, SHOUTcast, touchTXT, and many more. I took over managing the Mac team a little over two years ago when AOL decided to "Get Back on the Mac." Since then, we have released numerous desktop products and iPhone apps. We look forward to bringing more exciting apps to the Mac community. I'm on Twitter, if you would like to follow me - @ChristinaWick.
My name is Lee Givens and I'm the Product Lead for the Mac products at AOL and you can find me on the Mac@AOL blog too. When I'm not at the office, I'm probably in line at the local Apple Store whenever a new iPhone is released (actually, when anything from Apple is released :) I've been at AOL since 2007 and lead product management for Mac and iPhone apps. During my spare time, I collect vintage Macs (and Apple IIs) and root for the Univ. of Maryland Terps. If you would like to follow me, I'm at @MacGivens.

1. the new version appears completely broken. Crashes immediately upon launch. And there is no way of signing out, so I am constantly bombarded with notifications that cannot be viewed or responded to.

Hello Casey,
First, thanks for using AIM for iPhone. We've been getting user reports of crashing upon launch and other issues such as pauses and then the app catches up. We're investigating and reviewing crash logs. I'll post more info as we investigate on the iBlog. Stay tuned!
Thanks!

3. This is the main way I communicate with my husband while he is at work. I know it & like it. IF this glitch doesn't get fixed, I will have to find an alternate form of communication & tell my contacts to do the same.
I am surprised it has actually this crashing issue has not been resolved.
I look forward to any updates & more importantly the next update which will truely be an improvement.
Thank you

4. I'm not having these crashing issues, but I do notice I can't send IMs to buddies who are logged off anymore. Before it would send respond with something like 'the user if currently offline, but will recive the message when they log on'. Now or says 'unable to send. Check your network connection.' I reinstalled the paid version thinking it was corrupt, but it still doesn't work and know it must be the update. I even asked one of my iPhone buddies to see if hers stopped sending to offline friends, and hers did too. I travel alot, and that capability was great when my aim buddies weren't logged on and I knew they'd get my message when logging on. One other thing I noticed, push didn't work when I was IMing using WIFI. Other than those two things that suddenly changed, it's worked fine.

5. This new version crashes as soon as it's launched. I used it as my main communication, now I can't use it at all. Messages come in and I can't reply or view past messages that have important information. Can't access the app to change anything or sign off. I see there are more complaints than ever, please put an option for the old version back if you don't have an immediate fix...it worked perfectly. I am so upset I upgraded. Now, it is just a pain. I was even more frustrated after fing this blog where you announce the launch and in the same breath mention people are having issues with it.

7. Had the same crashing issue. Fixed by deleting app on phone and re-downlaoding on the phone.
also have "can't send to offline buddies" problem. Please fix this one :-) I use the offline feature to
communicate with my dad (he only uses aol desktop :-)).
Other than that - great app and it typically works very well - thanks for all your
hard work !!
Thanks !

8. I am also unable to use AIM at all. If I don't have any IMs, I can open the app and navigate around, but as soon as I get an IM the entire app crashes. If I get a push notification of an IM, the app will launch and immediately crash. Do you receive crash logs automatically or is there something users can send to help the troubleshooting process?

9. when is the free edition going to get the landscape keyboard? I read it was supposed to happen a couple of months ago and nothing's come out yet. I don't use the aim app because it is too annoying typing with the small horizontal keyboard. Facebook offers all their features in a free app. Why can't aim do the same?

10. I also have the same immediate crash upon launch problem but I also noticed that with the previous upgrade we now have the option to update facebook & twitter, while this is great, "AIM" eliminated the line breaks which is REALLY annoying because it shows the away messages as one long paragraph...is there anyway we can get the line break options back?

11. The app doesn't crash in my situation. But it sits there and continually tries "reconnecting" with the red banner. No crashes but just as unusable. I tried switching from the free app to the paid app hoping that the issue would go away. but they are both screwed. and as with everyone else, it was workign fine before the upgrade.

12. The AIM on my iphone works ok except for the fact that when I send an IM it tells me I have no network connection when I obviously do.

13. I have the $2.99 version and cannot sign in. It has my correct screen name but every password I try does not work and when I go through the security password questions it does not recognize me. Can't talk with anyone so what do I do?

15. Love all the updates, wondering if next update could create a way for the screen to rotate while typing a message in aim

16. My push notifications are turned on but never work at my own house but I'll go to someone elses house and the push notifications will work? I need them to work all the time, I never know when someone replies back to me and it would really be helpful if you could tell me how to solve this problem.
